So, God, the Universe, and Mr. Rogers want us to be Kind. Even to ourselves. (Honest, I did the research, HERE.)
How exactly do we go about doing that? What does true self-care, self-kindness, self-esteem and the dreaded cliche self-love look like?
Google, Pinterest, Amazon, yield numerous, varied and possibly accurate search results. I, however am not Google, Pinterest, or Amazon. I can only speak to and for me. My sandbox, my rules.
My one secret to self-care? My one habit or behavior that started me down a path of self-kindness, self-esteem, and dare I even suggest, self-love?
-
Make a commitment to myself.
-
Honor it.
-
Make no exceptions. No excuses.
When I followed these three simple (simple is NOT easy, just to be clear) steps, I wake and sleep with JOY.
Thoreau agrees. It make me happy when Thoreau agrees with me.
If the day and the night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal- that is your success. All nature is your congratulation, and you have cause momentarily to bless yourself.
Henry David Thoreau
I started with ONE commitment. I said, “today, I’m going to drink 3 diet Dr. Thunder’s instead of 6.” And I did. And I found a little joy. And it’s been snowballing since then.
On days I make and honor commitments to self, I find joy. I, as Thoreau puts it, “bless myself”.
Make one commitment to you. Today. Honor it. Honor you. Find joy. Bless yourself.
Light and Love,
Big Laura
